Diahann Carroll

American actress, singer, and Broadway veteran Diahann Carroll (born 1935) is an accomplished entertainer who has received numerous awards for her work. Carroll gained popularity in 1968 when she played the title character in the TV series Julia. Debuting in 1968, Julia is often credited as the first show to star an African-American woman in a non-stereotypical role. Still active, Carroll made a brief appearance on the hit TV drama Grey’s Anatomy.
